League History
Youngstown Area Roller Derby was founded in 2008 as the Little Steel Derby Girls, named to honor of the 1937 Little Steel strike and Youngstown's rich history in the steel industry.
Our first home bout took place in October 2010 against the Steel City Derby Demons (now known as Steel City Roller Derby) and we were officially accepted into the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in 2012.
In 2023, we made the decision to change our name to Youngstown Area Roller Derby (YARD) to promote gender inclusivity, differentiate between similarly named teams, and strengthen our ties with our local community!

Our mission is to empower and inspire athletes, volunteers, and fans while fostering the growth of this competitive sport through training, community engagement, and athleticism at all levels.
